I had a nice surprise today in the form of a day off, because the snow made it too dangerous to drive.  So in amongst the essay writing and getting distracted by the internet i managed to get a bit of stitching done.  Max now has a moon, and some of the fern in the bottom left.  The fern is actually taking quite a long time even though it’s just backstitch.

hi, thank you for sharing this beautiful work in progress. I had never stitched on dark color fabric, and by seeing this… well, your work is really inspiring. Thank you (for the back stitch detail too, I am far from good at it)

Max is looking great! I’ve stitched several big pieces on dark and it always makes the colors pop nicely.

I think you inspired me to attempt a HAED of my own.

I too have been stitching Max. How are you getting on? I’m working on the backstich ‘fur’ around the body and can see some backstitch lines on top of the stitching on the underside but they are hard to see. Can’t decide whether to leave them out and just to the fluffy edges. Have you had this problem?

Hi Janet, i’ve tried to do all the backstitch lines that are on the chart, but the ones on top of the cross stitches on his body are not exactly where they should be, i’ve kind of just made them up as i go along. I’ve nearly finished all his backstitch fur now, and i feel the backstitch on top of the cross stitch does add something, so i think it’s worth doing.

Thanks Becca, I’ve started on the fur so I’ll try and add some of the stitches on top of the cross stitch as you suggest. Once that’s done, I’ve just got the moon to do. I like to leave the light stitches til last so they look nice and bright.

My next project is “Ferdinand the literate”, another cat stitched on black fabric!

Hope to see a picture of your Max when he’s finished.

Max’s Moon is finally being complete after 6 years of in and out of the “already started” pile! but find I’m having difficulty with the back/long stitch on the fern. Also can’t find the instruction sheet – serve me right for taking so long over the project. Great to see that you have finished him. I’ve something to work towards.
